The Church - The Leadership

ABC is lead by the minister and a team of experienced deacons, two of whom hold the ex-officio positions of Church Secretary and Treasurer. All positions are elected by the church membership. The church leadership is a very tight knit group of individuals who bring various skills and qualities to the group. They meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month to discuss church business and to pray.

The work of the leadership team is also supported by other small teams from within the congregation who take responsibility for pastoral visits and healing prayer ministry.

The Church - The Membership

At present ABC's core membership is 40 with congregations ranging from 30 to 80. One of the notable features of the church congregation is its mix across the full age spectrum. Another important feature of ABC has always been its links with the military and several local Forces families find a spiritual home within ABC. This being the case ABC tends to find that this part of the congregation is transient with families being posted on a regular basis. Recently there has been a noticeable increase in Forces personnel from our congregation being posted overseas, resulting in intensive efforts to support the parts of the family left behind.

The Church - Worship

As a church we believe that worship is a whole life event, not just the corporate events on a Sunday. Having said that, our Sunday morning worship comprises a mix of modern songs and older hymns, scripture from both Old and New Testaments, Intercessory prayer and bible based teaching. The aim is that everyone in the service who attends will find something in the service to inspire and help. The music is led by our Worship Band and is very much Holy Spirit led. Different members of the group are encouraged to lead and younger members encouraged to join and then helped to feel comfortable leading in the Holy Spirit.

We have several members of the congregation gifted in leading the service and preaching, which has been extremely beneficial to the whole congregation during our period of Inter-regnum since our minister retired in February 2010.

Sharing of Holy Communion is central to our worship and occurs every first and third Sunday. The Communion Table is open and all ages are invited to receive bread and wine. Once a month, on the first Sunday, a Praise service is held and approximately every three months a service of Healing and Wholeness is offered.

ABC is blessed to have full Audio-Visual and multi-media systems to enhance our praise and worship with a large screen to display songs, show video, DVD, PowerPoint and other media sources.

The Church - Theology

ABC is a bible based, outgoing evangelical church in membership with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Southern Counties Baptist Association.

The Holy Bible is the basis for teaching and preaching. We practise Believers Baptism and offer Christian marriage and Infant blessing.

The Church - Pastoral Care and Nurturing

The church seeks to care for and nurture its members through a series of Cell (House groups) who meet in various locations throughout the week and to which every church member is encouraged to belong. In addition, the minister will hold a series of teaching sessions during the year to help members grow in faith and discipleship.
