Longing for God
"Longing" is an emotion, which can become a state of being. The dictionary
definition is "an intense desire". We often long for God to do things
for us, and long for things to happen in our life, yet we can be prone to forget
the real object of our desire - to be with God now and forever.
It is not "otherworldly" to long for God; it is practical, because only he is eternally present for us
as his children.
Even though we are constantly with him, we can learn afresh how intense our
desire to be with him in the next life really is. This is not morbid; it is
genuine. We begin by responding to his love for us.
